Muesli4Me Supports Breast Cancer Research

October is international breast cancer awareness month and here at Muesli4Me we want to support this worthy cause as much as we can. So we've decided to donate $2 from each order in the month of October towards breast cancer research. In addition we have added a pink ribbon button in the Something Specialsection of the order process. With this button you can donate $1. We hope you'll help us support this cause and you stack up on your muesli in October!
Here are some diet related tips that are said to help prevent breast cancer. It's not 100% and there are a lot of different factors involved, but research shows that these things make a difference:
  1. Eat more fruits (especially those with high levels of antioxidants such as goji berries, blueberries and whole grains).
  2. Eat carotenoid rich foods such as mango.
  3. Eat more fibre - this can be achieved in your muesli by adding ingredients such as whole grains (all our rolled grains are whole), psyllium husk and oat bran.
  4. Eat less fat, saturated fat, and animal fat. If you like your muesli with milk or yoghurt, you can eat it with low fat milk. If you want to eat it with no fat - try with juice. Our entire selection of dried fruit is low fat, so you can go wild with them!
  5. Emphasize variety in food choices. Don't eat the same thing all the time everyday - easy, you can be as creative as you like when designing your muesli mix!

We hope this helps and hope we raise a lot of money to help with the research!

A Warm Welcome to Oat Bran Straws

We couldn't resist these crunchy oat bran straws, so we had to add them to our product range. As you might know, oat bran is made from the ground husk of the grain. It contains the bulk of the dietary fibre of the grain, along with a large amount of useful minerals, omega, starch, protein and vitamins. A condensed straw of goodness!

If you would like to suggest an ingredient, we'd love to hear from you. Simply drop us an email suggestion@muesli4me.com.au

Ingredients of the Month

There are lots of exciting muesli mixes feeding into the monthly drawer and here it is what YOU made the ingredients of the month:
  • coconut flake
  • wheat and honey puffs
  • blueberry
We are seeing the blueberry re-occuring on the top of the ingredients. No surprise! They are being hailed as a"superfood". One reason is that blueberries contain a range of micronutrients, such as the essential dietary mineral manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin K and dietary fiber. Another reason is that these blue berries also contain substances that have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are said to help neutralize free radicals which are unstable molecules linked to the development of a number of diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease and other age-related conditions.
Bottom line: blueberries are healthy and yummy - what a great combination.

Muesli and sesame

I just got a suggestion from one of our customers that likes mixing their breakfast muesli with a table spoon of tahini.  Adding a rich sesame flavor to their muesli.

I had to try it, so this morning I had a bowl of our Chocolate Lovers premix (I've got a bit of a sweet tooth) with a spoonful of hulled organic tahini.  WOW!  It was a bit difficult to stir in, but once I got it mixed, the sesame flavor combined fantastically with the chocolates and made the milk nice and rich.

Highly recommended!

Sesame seeds have been eaten for thousands of years all over the world.  They are an excellent source of calcium, iron, vitamin B1, dietary fiber and other minerals.  As well, they are SUPER TASTY!

At Muesli4Me sesame seeds have been a very popular addition to a lot of your muesli's.  They are featured in our 'go eastern', 'detox' and 'go nuts' bases.

Breakfast detox

It seems to be coming up on detox season.  Everybody want to come in to summer with their 'bikini body' and feel comfortable hanging out half naked at the beach.

The perfect companion to a diet and exercise regime is a good detox - starting your day with a detox breakfast will have you feeling lighter and more energized as the day goes on.

As Linda Page (naturopathic doctor and PhD) says about springtime detox :

It's a way to recharge, rejuvenate, and renew, says Page. "Anybody can benefit from a cleansing. The body is coming out of what might be called hibernation. It's a way you can jump-start your body for a more active life, a healthier life."

Here are some tips and suggestions we've found for a tasty and healthy breakfast detox :

  • High fibre - start your day with a lot of fibre which helps detox the blood stream by reducing blood sugars and cholesterol.  We've formulated or 'Detox' muesli base to contain the perfect of amount of fibre - oat bran and psyllium husk.
  • Add some ginger - ginger helps boost metabolism so you burn more calories and it helps clear the airways if your sinuses are stuffed.
  • Prunes - add some prunes to your muesli.  These dried plums are high in fibre and they help cleanse the digestive system (helping to carry out potential carcinogens).

good for the kids

Back again to the 'breakfast the most important meal' cliche - this time, in regards to children.

Not only to children need to eat their breakfast to have the energy to get through the day, they have many developmental issues that are dependent on the food they eat and when they eat it.

As Dr. Robert Needlman puts it in his article "How to get your child to eat breakfast"

Research has found that children who eat breakfast have better levels of concentration, increased problem-solving abilities, and a more positive attitude about school. Children who miss their morning meal often are irritable, tired, restless and easily distracted. Furthermore, children who skip breakfast can have impaired memory and verbal skills.

So how do YOU get your children to eat a healthy breakfast? And not one of those sugar loaded cereals?

Try getting them involved in the choice process when you order your Muesli4me muesli.  By letting them pick and choose their ingredients as well as naming their own muesli blend, you can be sure that their breakfast will be more fun and tasty and the muesli mix will be their own!

Try out our 'for the kids' premix or go through the steps of a custom order with your children and believe me, they will love their healthy breakfast cereal and eat it without a fuss.
